The best marketing advice I ever got

Oh hey, Reader!

Long time no chat. 😉 Just returned from our annual family sojourn out east and getting back in the groove after being gone for almost a month.

Every year, the trip teaches me something new. This year’s takeaways:

  • FOMO is REAL, even in 3-year-olds.
  • A good team makes your business go round, even when you’re on vacay.
  • There is actually a limit to how much Taylor Swift I can listen to on a road trip. The threshold is high, but it’s def there.

September Win: Onboarded two new clients into my monthly done-for-you marketing support cohort. 🙌

So this month is going to be all about fine-tuning workflows and processes ahead of the holidays and getting everyone ready to go for 2026 planning (sheesh, can’t even — like wasn’t it JUST June?).

Here’s what I’ve got for ya:

  • the non-marketing advice that transformed my business 🪄
  • the biz book I’m reading for the second time this year (it’s THAT good) 📖
  • the power of the pivot (what, like it’s hard?) 💁‍♀️

Clear eyes full hearts this quarter, friend. 🫶

PS: To those of you who are new around here -- a big ol' welcome hug from me! So glad to have you here. 🤗

✏️ If I was your marketing strategist

-------

It’s offish Q4. If your small biz inbox is anything like mine, it’s likely already poppin’ with well-meaning (but let’s be honest — stressful) holiday advice.

If the though of BF / CM gives you heart palpitations, I get it.

And I promise not to add to your monstrous to-do list that probably already rivals The Big Man’s himself. 🎅

But in the spirit of the season, I did want to share the best piece of marketing advice I’ve ever received.

And the ironic thing is — it wasn’t even delivered as marketing advice.

It was just something someone said off-hand to me about something totally unrelated to business.

It was: “What you put out is what you get back.”

Once I heard it, I saw evidence for it everywhere.

But I realized nowhere was it more true than in my marketing.

So I’ve been repeating it to myself and to clients ad nauseum ever since.

Because the truth is, whether you intend to or not, you’re constantly putting out signals in your business.📡

Everything you do (and even don’t do) creates a narrative for your brand that people absorb and use to determine what they think about it.

Which begs the question…

What are the signals you’re putting out in YOUR business?

🌪️ Random and scattered? Or intentional and strategic?

💰 Focused on making a single sale? Or focused on gaining a lifelong customer?

💖 Posting to please an algorithm? Or posting to connect with your people?

🛎️ Showing up to sell? Or showing up to serve?

🧨 Patient in the process? Or constantly making knee-jerk decisions that stall your momentum?

Heavy, I know. But it’s also a valuable litmus test. And a powerful reminder that Y-O-U set the tone in your business, my lovely friend.

Now whenever I'm about to do anything marketing related, I ask myself: "What is the message that action is communicating out to the world? And what is it likely to attract back in return?"

  • Is that a well-thought-out promotion? Or something I’m throwing together last minute because I’m desperate for sales?
  • Does my price accurately represent the value of my offer? Or am I undercharging because I’m afraid people will scoff at my REAL rate?
  • Does my content support the purchase journey for my potential customers? Or am I just trying to “beat an algorithm”?

So here’s a five minute exercise that’ll set you up better for Q4 success than any Black Friday caption templates ever will:

  • What are the real, honest results you’d love to achieve this quarter?
  • Honestly evaluate things you’re currently doing (or not doing) in your business right now. Are they helping or hurting your chances of achieving those results?
  • What are the things you need to be putting out there (doing, saying, changing, etc.) to set yourself up to achieve those results? List ALL the things, even the ones you feel like you don’t have the capacity to do. If you know they’re important, you can always find people to help you.

Sometimes as a small business owner, you’re so close to what you do that it’s hard to look at things with fresh eyes.

If you know something needs to change, but have zero idea where to start, I want to help you.✨

👉👉 Grab 30 minutes on my calendar (no charge!). I’ll help you identify the top 3 things to focus on for the quickest impact in your business. So you can stop swirling over what needs to be done next and start growing your business faster.

Because it was just THAT good. Should be required reading for every. single. entrepreneur. IMO.

Grab yourself a copy, you won’t be sorry.

Words of Wisdom

-------

“If one component isn’t working, you don’t just say the whole thing isn’t working. You pivot. You pivot your business model.” — Reese Witherspoon (aka Elle Woods herself)

Remember, even billionaires need to pivot sometimes. 😊 Never fear the pivot. Fear the stagnation.
