💿 I've got 99 problems...

Hiya Reader!

Happy back-2-school szn to those who celebrate. 😆🏫✏️

This time of year always gives me major trapper-keeper and Lisa Frank nostalgia vibes.

School supply shopping always ranked up there as one of the best days of the school year for me (after the Scholastic book fairs, of course).

What can I say, nerds gonna nerd. 🤓

Though lightyears past my school-supply shopping days, I did celebrate this year by buying a laminator.

I’ve also since laminated everything I can get my Esse polished hands on. 💅

Packing lists, content calendars, client to-do charts. ‘Tis a sickness. But one I’m immensely enjoying. 😜

Here’s what I’ve got for ya:

  • Your people have problems… let’s help them solve one 🦹‍♀️
  • Spicy hooks for the problem-seekers 🌶️
  • Marketing lessons from an unlikely source ❤️‍🔥

'til next week,

Not all white knights wear shining armor and slay dragons with swords.

Sometimes, they wear a messy topknot and leggings and offer something essential to someone who has been struggling with a problem and searching for a solution for days, weeks, or months.

As business owners, I think we sometimes feel like if we’re not solving big, hairy, keep-you-up-at-night problems, then they aren’t worth paying for (or maybe not paying very much for).

But often the most pressing problems are the tiny, everyday ones that quietly nag us like crazy.

It’s all relative, right?

What constitutes a problem for one person, might not be a problem to someone else.

(Which is why having a niche is so dang important -- I'll die on that proverbial hill.)

Think back to some of the things you purchased this week. What was in your Amazon cart? What was the problem that led you to buy them?

I know a lot of mine were things most people wouldn’t consider problems.

But in that moment, they were problems to me. And they got me to whip out my credit card.

  • 🛍️ A new blue top because my mom is insisting on family photos on vacation this year and all my other tops either didn’t fit the bill or felt outdated (problem).
  • 🔍 A seek-and-find for my 3-year-old because 16 hour car rides necessitate lots of kid-friendly entertainment options that DON’T make me want to rip my hair out before we’ve even hit South Bend (problem)
  • 🛏️ A new bed frame because the one my husband bought 15+ years ago finally gave out this week (problem)

❌ You are NOT in the business of selling products or services.

✅ You’re in the business of selling solutions to problems.

Trust me—it’s far more lucrative.

➡️➡️ Ask yourself: “What are the problems MY audience has that MY offer solves?”

Understanding this is ~*critical*~ to making sales, friend.

So here's what we're gonna do:

1️⃣ Grab a piece of paper, set a timer, and start writing them down.

The big ones, the small ones. The immediate, “feeling this today” ones. And the longer term ones. The physical ones, the emotional ones, and all of the problems in between.

2️⃣ When you have your list of problems, pick three big ones you hear about a lot from your customers or clients.

3️⃣ For each one, identify how what you offer solves that problem better than anything else for YOUR audience. What is it your audience is specifically looking for in a solution that your offer gives them?

You now have three outlines for three powerful pieces of content you can create this week. 💪

Three hooks you can use with the problems you’ve identified:

  • No one talks about how hard it is to [thing your audience struggles to do].
  • If [problem] is on repeat in your life, this is for you, my friend.
  • Raise your hand if you’ve ever [relatable experience your audience has definitely had]🙋‍♀️

📖 On My Desk(top) 📖

-------

“Taylor Swift on Reclaiming Her Masters, Wrapping The Eras Tour, and the Life of a Showgirl” episode of the New Heights podcast

Not *technically* business related, I know.

But love her or hate her I think we can all agree that when it comes to building a personal brand, Taylor Swift is quite literally the GOAT. 🐐

And this episode was packed with mini business bingeables.

Like the fact that she has specific parameters for her easter eggs (read: they’re strategic and that’s why they work).

Or that part of her business savvy is knowing who to delegate things to (read: she doesn’t attempt to do everything herself, because she knows there are things she’s just not good at — any other business owner need this reminder? 🙋‍♀️).
